  • LONDON - So you hate royal weddings. Or you love them. Or maybe you've caught yourself attending to arcane details of Prince William and Kate Middleton's plans for Friday, but you can't say exactly why. Here's one reason: They defy time.

  • Something has happened, Mr. Kidd, and if you are not sitting down now, one suggests you do so. One has heard that some Americans out of innocent ignorance, surely -- have referred to Prince William not as "His Royal Highness" but as "His Majesty. Goodness me."

  • LONDON - It's not the type of welcome most wedding guests expect - ID checks and a tough security sweep before entering the church. But then again, Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding on Friday is no ordinary affair.

  • ANGLESEY, Wales - Britain's most glamorous royal couple is spending this week on an island - just not the kind of island everyone expected. It's not a private honeymoon retreat in the Caribbean or the Seychelles, but Anglesey, a wind-swept spot off northwest Wales where Prince William works as a search-and-rescue helicopter pilot at the Royal Air Force Valley base.

  • The chairman of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors says he will spend what it takes to outfit police cruisers with cameras if it is necessary to preserve the crackdown on illegal immigration targeted for repeal by a fellow board member. Certainly it looks like we may have to do the cameras," said Corey A. Stewart, at-large Republican and the architect of the crackdown. "I think at this point I am going to be focused on saving the resolution.

  • Americans might be curious about the royal wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton, but many nearby Canadian residents with historic ties to Britain are positively mad about it. Wedding hat business is through the roof. Pajama parties starting long before sunrise are common. Canadian accents have been temporarily replaced by British ones. And by last weekend, gift shops were wiped out of everything bearing the image of the royal couple.

  • Unlike those in the U.K., we don't get a national holiday (and the accompanying day off) for Prince William and Kate's (excuse me) Catherine Middleton's wedding. But with the time difference, the April 29 event has a 5:30 a.m. start in New Jersey, so you can probably watch the "I do's" before going to work or getting the kids off to school. And if you're going to watch, wouldn't it be even better to watch with some friends? Normally we aren't in favor of socializing before sunrise, but this is a special occasion.

  • If they were just Bill and Cathy, they probably still would want live music for their wedding ceremony. Most likely an organist. But the royal wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton on April 29 in London's Westminster Abbey will be a grand event on a scale beyond what common folk can do. That grandeur extends to the music for the event, which will luxuriously employ five ensembles in addition to organ.

  • The rain has ended, but the flood of harsh words from the Washington Nationals, Potomac Nationals owner Art Silber and Prince William County hasn't stopped. A ferocious storm tore through Northern Virginia last week. The hourlong deluge left creeks of muddy water flowing along roads, snarled traffic and soaked the field at G. Richard Pfitzner Stadium in Woodbridge, home to the Potomac Nationals, Washington's high Class A affiliate.

  • Most people can't understand why Susanne Haines is taking Friday off work to celebrate the marriage of England's Prince William and Kate Middleton. But it's a huge deal to me," said Haines, who is English but has lived in Colorado Springs for over 20 years. "This is my heritage. This is my life.
