CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Gamesmanship was in full swing Monday as two of NASCAR's three championship contenders, Denny Hamlin and Kevin Harvick, teased racing fans with tweets about how they're approaching this weekend's season finale.
Hamlin appeared to shake off the heartbreaking turn of events at Phoenix International Raceway by the time he got home to North Carolina, insisting that as the points leader, he's still in control. Harvick, saved from a potentially crippling mid-race penalty, seemed to be chomping at the chance to play the spoiler.

LAS VEGAS - Another race, another victory for Jimmie Johnson and yet another round of griping about the NASCAR champion's dominance.
Only this time, there was a silver lining for those ready to see someone else hoist the Sprint Cup trophy: His competitors are clearly closing the gap.

CONCORD, N.C. -- Dave Blaney wound up the winner Friday night at Lowe's Motor Speedway in a NASCAR Busch Series finish that included red flag stoppages for a scoring glitch and a crash by Carl Edwards and Casey Mears while battling for the win.
Edwards, going for a season sweep of the Busch races at the suburban Charlotte track, started from the pole and led 123 of the 203 laps that included a final two-lap overtime sprint in which Blaney fought off Matt Kenseth to grab his first series win in 93 starts since 1998.

LOUDON, N.H. -- Carl Edwards easily held off a late challenge from Kevin Harvick on Saturday to win the NASCAR Busch Series race at New Hampshire International Speedway.
Edwards has finished first or second in five of the last eight races, including all three of his Busch victories. But the Roush Racing driver remained a distant second in the season standings, 308 points behind runaway series leader Harvick.

FONTANA, Calif. - Kevin Harvick passed California king Jimmie Johnson on the final turn to win his first race of the season Sunday at Auto Club Speedway.
Kyle Busch had the dominant car most of the day and led coming out of a restart with nine laps left. Johnson, a five-time winner at Fontana, chased him down to go out front with three laps left, but Harvick moved in right behind him.

[Kevin Harvick]'s win changed the story line of the week from teams breaking NASCAR's rules to NASCAR's enforcement of its rules. Which, in the minds of some in the sport, had been the story all along, anyway. Had NASCAR thrown the caution immediately when all heck broke loose, [Mark Martin] would have won. But Harvick beat Martin to the finish line by inches-a controversial finish to the controversial weeks leading up to the Nextel Cup Series' seasonopening race.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. - Kevin Harvick overcame an ill-handling car to charge to the front, pass Dale Earnhardt Jr. for the lead and hold on to win Sunday's Sprint Cup race at Martinsville Speedway.
Earnhardt had taken over the lead with 20 laps to go with a pass of Kyle Busch that brought everyone in the grandstands to their feet. But Harvick closed quickly, pulled onto Earnhardt's bumper with four laps to go, and made his pass in the second turn.

Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s wait is finally over. After nearly seven months, NASCAR is back at Martinsville Speedway.
He's seeking the victory he lost in April, the last time the Sprint Cup Series competed at the historic half-mile speedway. He appeared headed for his first victory since the 2008 season, but then Kevin Harvick passed him with four laps to go and won.
