WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS - It was hard to tell if the question about Phil Mickelson was in jest, or was serious. In this instance, it really didnt matter. From across the 11th fairway at The Old White TPC, where Mickelsons ball was nowhere to be found: Is he going to the bathroom? He wasnt, but he might as well have a complex of portable facilities stood not far from Mickelsons ball, which was amid the trees in a patch of native tall grass. It was a typical Lefty moment in his debut at The Greenbrier Classic. On this particular shot on his second hole of the day (his group began at No. 10), he hacked out to about 30 yards short of the green. He nearly holed the pitch shot, and then saved par from 2 feet. That delighted a following that grew rapidly from the 100 that watched him tee off wi...

On May 29, Mother's Day, Andrew Appleby, Johnny Buckheim and Jesse Hopkins went free-diving at the 180-foot-deep Curb Wreck to spearfish. Experienced divers and fishermen, Appleby and Buckheim enjoyed spearing jacks about 60 feet down. After Buckheim shot a 70-pound amberjack at about 80 feet, Appleby dove after another large jack. Because Buckheim was running out of oxygen, he tied Appleby's line to his spear gun, and went up for air. After a few moments of dragging the fish up himself, Appleby wondered where Buckheim was. "I looked over my shoulder," Appleby says, "and I saw him sinking, about 20 yards away.
Appleby let go of the fish, grabbed Buckheim, and ascended immediately. Emerging about 45 yards from the boat, Appleby tried desperately to take Buckheim's weight belt off, but t...

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS - All things considered, even the historic 59 Sunday by Stuart Appleby, Jeff Overton may still be the PGA Tour's hottest player.
But it seems more and more that Overton is the Tour's most star- crossed.

HONOLULU -- Stuart Appleby switched islands, but not his position atop the leaderboard, scrambling to a 4-under 66 on Friday to join PGA Tour rookie J.B. Holmes and Jerry Smith as the early leaders through two rounds of the Sony Open.
Coming off a playoff victory in the Mercedes Championships on Maui, Appleby took only one putt on each of his first seven holes in blustery conditions at Waialae Country Club -- six of them to save par -- and finished at 4-under 136.

Stuart Appleby had every reason to be concerned.
Five shots ahead with five holes to play Sunday in the Mercedes Championships, Appleby started playing it safe as Vijay Singh began pouring in birdies. Momentum was on the side of the big Fijian, but Appleby never flinched.

Just call them Team Spasms.
The duo of Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk suffered back and rib spasms yesterday, but still managed to close out the Australian team of Stuart Appleby and Mark Hensby with relative ease 3 and 2.

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS - Stuart Appleby shooting a 59 and finishing 22 under par to win the inaugural Greenbrier Classic wasn't the worst thing that could have happened to the 2010 PGA Tour event on the Old White course.
Perhaps it wasn't the other 75 golfers shooting below par either, but it didn't help.
-
WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS - With Phil Mickelson, John Daly, Tom Watson and Stuart Appleby missing the cut and Sergio Garcia out of contention, many people thought all of the big names playing in The Greenbrier Classic were mere afterthoughts into Saturday.
But they were wrong.

The need for effective services for the elderly will continue to increase as the number of seniors explodes in the coming years. State services will face demand for senior care on an unprecedented scale and scope. This paper explores how different states have responded to this challenge, in terms of the structure of their state departments responsible for elder care services. Using continua based on the centralization and scope of services at the state level, four service paradigms have been identified. All of these paradigms have been successfully applied in different states, and are vigorously defended by various stakeholders. Their strengths and weaknesses will be explored, along with implications for a "best practices" departmental strategy and structure.
