NEWPORT - , 54, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 6, 2011, at her home on Elm Street after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born April 29, 1957, in Dexter. She was the daughter of Jane and Russell Sawyer and also the daughter of the late Duane Ordway.
Eileen loved well and was well loved throughout her life. She was a Maine girl and very proud of her heritage. She was an incredible cook; able to make the same mince meat pie that her great- grandmother made from venison as well as gourmet treats that she blessed her family and friends with every Christmas. She never knew, nor wanted to know, a life that did not include the task of "getting the wood in." Camping beside the ocean brought her much peace throughout her life. Eileen graduated from Nokomis High Sc...

[...] the vigorous debates that erupted at government meetings and gathering places also produced new ideas: * A $28,000 television advertising campaign - a strategy the county has largely avoided in the past - drew an immediate wave of visitors from Cincinnati, where the ads ran last summer. * An Arts Industry Business Incubator opened last December to offer office space and administrative support to start-up and relocating businesses. Sotiris Avgoustis, chairman of IUPUI's Department of Tourism, Conventions and Event Management, encouraged merchants not to abandon the Convention and Visitors Bureau's market research, which is frequently criticized for its cost. The bureau centers its marketing budget on its "Art Colony of the Midwest" slogan, but Couch said the county's bluegrass fe...

On Aug. 31 Solyndra, a solar panel company in Fremont, Calif., financially collapsed and closed its doors forever. Within days, the FBI was executing surprise search warrants on both the bankrupt company's headquarters and the home of the company's chief executive, Brian Harrison. On Sept. 23, Mr. Harrison, along with another Solyndra executive, invoked his Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination when questioned about Solyndra's bankruptcy by the House Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations.
In addition to raising troubling questions about the competitiveness of American manufacturers in industries that are quickly being dominated by Chinese companies, the Solyndra bankruptcy raises important questions about whether the federal government should be in the business of pic...

Tax increment financing (TIF) districts and enterprise zones had district boundaries; Community Development Assistance Program loans and grants had low- to moderate-income requirements; and each had its own project eligibility costs and scheduling restrictions. Established as part of the 2007 budget process to promote, complement, and enhance economic and business development opportunities throughout the city for industrial, commercial, and residential projects, the fund began with a start-up injection of $100,000 from the general fund reserve, and added 70 percent of all unexpended, unencumbered contingency fund line items at the end of fiscal year 2006; each year thereafter, this same percentage of unexpended, unencumbered contingency fund line items would be transferred into the Opp...

The most acute phase of the global economic crisis appears to have passed. Output growth has resumed in most parts of the world. It appears, however, that the upturn in advanced economies will only be moderate and that the economies of many countries will be marked by considerable spare output capacity and high unemployment ahead. The crisis has given rise to new imbalances that will dampen the recovery. Weak prospects have contributed to a marked decline in interest rate expectations in many countries. New information suggests that the recovery in the Norwegian economy is continuing, but that capacity utilization is probably somewhat lower than anticipated in autumn 2009. Monetary policy cannot fine-tune developments in the economy, but it can mitigate the most severe effects when the ...

So the point I'm making-and [Blanche Lambert] is exactly right-we've got to be nonideological about our approach to these things. We've got to make sure that our party understands that, like it or not, we have to have a financial system that is healthy and functioning, so we can't be demonizing every bank out there. We've got to be the party of business, small business and large business, because they produce jobs. We've got to be in favor of competition and exports and trade....
