LOS ANGELES - Barry Levin took over a struggling snack company in 1979 that was producing pork rinds in a cramped facility with only two employees. Nearly 30 years later, under Levin's leadership as CEO, Industry- based Snak King now has the largest single-oven tortilla chip line in the snack food industry and its production capacity has doubled many times over.
The U.S. Small Business Administration has named Gerald Williams, president and owner of Interim Solutions for Government LLC, as 2011 Oklahoma Small Business Person of the Year. Oklahoma City-based Interim Solutions for Government provides contract support services to the federal government. In nine years, the company has grown to 190 employees with sales exceeding $13 million.

Singer-songwriter and pianist Rachael Yamagata just released her third studio album, "Chesapeake," and kicks off a 45-city tour with a show at Port City Music Hall on Monday night. Chesapeake" is home to 10 gorgeously crafted songs, all anchored by Yamagata's smoky vocals. NPR chose the first single, "Even If I Don't," as its "Song of the Day" on the day the album was released.

Nomination are being taken until Nov. 18 for West Virginia's "Small Business Person of the Year" award, according to a U.S. Small Business Administration press release. The state winner will compete for the national title during National Small Business Week, May 20- 26, 2012. Nominees will be judged on their growth in employment and sales, innovation of product or service, staying power, and evidence of contributions to the community.

Gerald Williams' retirement was short-lived. A U.S. Army service- disabled veteran, Williams worked for 20 years at the Federal Aviation Administration and retired in 1997 at the age of 50 as the manager of the Operational Support Division at the FAA Academy. Shortly after retiring, he began working part-time as a business development consultant and concentrated on learning the fundamentals of small business support to the federal government from a supplier perspective. In 2001, Williams decided to combine this newly acquired knowledge with his decades of federal experience to start Interim Solutions for Government (ISG) LLC to provide contract service and support to federal agencies.
