Shares of General Electric Co. briefly fell to their lowest point in more than four years Monday when an analyst downgraded the company's shares and predicted a challenging environment for its business operations. Shares fell to $28.38 before rebounding to $29.03, down 12 cents. GE stock reached its lowest mark since Nov. 17, 2003, when it traded at $27.67. The drop for the industrial conglomerate, which makes jet engines, railroad locomotives, water treatment plants, household appliances and owns NBC television, occurred as JPMorgan's C. Stephen Tusa Jr. cut GE to "neutral" from "overweight.

RCN delays payment of $10.3M in interest
PRINCETON - RCN Corp., the cable company whose investors include billionaire Paul Allen, said it delayed a $10.3 million interest payment as it tries to avoid bankruptcy by negotiating with bondholders. A proposed conversion of notes to stock would result in "significant" increase in the number of common shares, RCN said in a statement. The company, which has systems in U.S. markets including Boston, New York, San Francisco, and Chicago, sold assets and hired Merrill Lynch & Co. in October to advise it on ways to raise funds. RCN hoped to compete with Comcast and other cable companies, but has been strapped for cash as it hasn't lured enough customers to pay debt incurred in building systems. Michael Baker Corp. announced Wednesday it has retained the investment banking firm Morgan Joseph & Co. Inc., to help the engineering and operations-maintenance company sell its energy business.
The move, which one analyst said could bring Baker a $130 million offer, takes place two months after the Moon-based company said it was working to determine the "best strategic option" for Baker Energy.
