This study seeks to understand how students integrate their personal beliefs, morals and ethics with service learning and what effect those factors have in the effectiveness of service learning. Fifty-nine undergraduate students from a private Christian university participated in a survey regarding their recently completed service learning projects The answers were concerned with the connection between their effective teaching during the service learning project and their ability to act as the Christian ideal of "salt and light", as well as share their faith with other students of the School District. Kansas City residents have been attending the Mayor's Prayer Breakfast since 1962 when the city became the first in the nation to hold such an event.
