West Virginia University will conclude Mountaineer Week with the finale of Mountaineer Idol at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Morgantown Metropolitan Theatre on High Street.
The competition began in early September with 16 finalists and has been narrowed down to the final three over the last two months. The top three contestants are sophomore biology major Patrick Garcia, sophomore business management major Ellis Lambert and sophomore finance major Chelsea Malone. Each performer will be singing three different songs (one from a previous performance, one the contestants have never performed before and one the hosts select) to showcase their talent and prove they are worthy of being the 2011 Mountaineer Idol.

BROOKVILLE -- Ashley Swink rode her first horse when she was 10 years old, "and when I got up in the saddle, it felt like home. I knew that's where I belonged. I knew that's what I wanted to do the whole rest of my life.
Swink, a straight-A Brookville High School student, wanted to be involved with horses, and next fall she will enroll at the University of Kentucky and study equine business management.
