The surgical center that the Federal Trade Commission forced Carilion Clinic to sell last year wants to move into a larger location as part of a plan to bolster services and attract business. Fairlawn Surgery Center has asked the state for permission to move its outpatient operating room from its current southwest Roanoke location on Rosalind Avenue to a space at the corner of Stephenson Avenue and McClanahan Street, less than a half-mile away.
After almost seven decades as the site of a car dealership, the corner of Harrisburg Pike and North President Avenue soon will be home to a different kind of business. Neffsville Plumbing & Heating Services, which has been around since 1940, recently purchased the former Faulkner Suzuki location for $1.075 million.
Venture Technologies also provides a variety of managed technology services, including NetWatch remote network monitoring and management services, NetHost application and Web hosting services, NetAssure co-location, remote back and business continuity services and NetArmor managed network security services.
Gentle Giant began providing moving services from a location in White Plains in 2005, but lacked the facilities to provide full-service storage.
Newark had a lot to lose if Verizon ended up leaving. In 2007, Verizon paid $4.2 million in property taxes and in business personal property taxes to Newark, according to the company. After announcing its intention to sell, Veri-zon considered a dozen locations within a 30 mile radius of Newark, and found "there was a pretty substantial gap between staying in Newark and going to a suburban location," said Timothy Lizura, EDA senior vice president of business development. While tax credits may have helped, Verizon had a strong incentive to stay on Broad Street to avoid relocation amid economic uncertainty, said Dan Levine, executive director of location and incentives services at ADP, a business outsourcing services provider in East Brunswick.
