Sisters Pam Higginson and Judy Harris, both well acquainted with the retail industry, have come to realize the importance of a good business location. In recent years, they have benefited from having their Graceful Lady high-end women's apparel store located in Fort Branch, Ind., just down U.S. 41 from the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana (TMMI) plant.
The importance of location is proven convincingly when a restaurant makes a drastic move. The relocated Ristorante Carmelo is so different from its former French Quarter edition that it's hard to believe the same guy runs it. It will be interesting to watch what happens as this place establishes itself. The North Shore has gone from having very few Italian places to a glut of them. But except for Sal and Judy's, none have attempted the ambitious menu Carmelo's has.

An Australian company plans to build a $29 million plant at Institute that will convert coal into an activated carbon product and eventually employ about 40 full-time workers, said David Warner, executive director of the West Virginia Economic Development Authority. A $13 million, low-interest loan to Carbonxt Inc. received preliminary approval Thursday from the authority.
