This research, based on social capital and strategic networking theory, explored small business owners' use of formal networking as a strategy for conducting business in competitive markets. Data were collected from 285 men and 111 women, who operated small businesses in small communities and were members of one of 29 business networks. Findings, based on hierarchical regression, suggest there are descriptive differences among male and female small business owners such as the business size and years of ownership that should be further explored. However, no differences were found for perceived network benefits based on gender, size of business, or years of ownership. Variables central to social capital and strategic network theory held a positive effect on network benefits (R^sup 2^ = .5...

Financial education is a critical topic/skill for the development of a progressive society. A project was designed and implemented to address two primary objectives. The first was to provide students with the opportunity to identify a critical need in a target community and to design an effective approach which would address the documented financial education challenges that are disparately experienced by low to moderate income predominately minority individuals and families. DAYTON -- Organizers of an aerospace trade and technology exposition that started in 2009 as an every-other-year event but was canceled this year will query the business community about support before deciding whether to commit to the event in 2013, a member of its board said Monday.
The five-member board of directors of the United States Air, Trade and Technology Expo wants to decide as soon as possible on the 2013 expo because company planners typically need to know of such events 18 months to two years in advance to budget for personnel and exhibits, board member Scott Coale said. The board members met Friday to discuss the 2013 event, and hope to meet again in about a month.
