WINFIELD - Construction has started on a clubhouse and apartments in an upscale Scott Depot development, the contractor said just hours after the Putnam County commissioners approved a funding plan for related off-site road and utility improvements. Workers have started framing a 6,000-square-foot clubhouse and preparing the slab foundations for multi-unit residential structures in the Devonshire development, Cathcart Construction President Marshall Armstrong said Tuesday afternoon.
DENVER - Backers of the proposed Super Slab highway accused Rep. Marsha Looper on Thursday of trying, with a bill she put forward, to ensure the toll road is never built. The Bergen County Improvement Authority on Tuesday approved up to $340,000 in emergency repairs at Bergen Regional Medical Center. As much as $300,000 was approved for repairs to a "structurally compromised" concrete slab in the ceiling of the dining hall in Building 12-A, where there had been a partial ceiling collapse earlier this year.

WEST GARDINER - The Center for Maine Craft will host a "Day of Clay" with the Central Maine Clay Artists from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 30. The rain date will be Sunday, May 31. The Central Maine Clay Artists are a group of potters and clay artists that promote clay art in the local, craft and larger communities. Seven members of the group will demonstrate their ceramic techniques, including wheel throwing, hand building, slab work, glazing and wax resist. The artists will have inventory to sell during the event.
The architect, engineer and contractors who built the David L. Lawrence Convention Center will inspect the Downtown structure today to determine whether it is safe to host shows after a concrete slab fell from the building onto the street below. No one was injured when the 20-by-60-foot slab fell shortly before 2 p.m. Monday as a tractor-trailer was driving over it inside the building's second-floor loading area, which sits above a portion of 10th Street.
