Officials shut down the Stony Creek Puppet House Theater for building code violations Friday, saying that building and fire code violations found in a surprise inspection pose a threat to patrons' safety.
Eighteen fire and 29 building code violations were discovered at the theater at 128 Thimble Island Road, including timeworn electrical wiring that must be replaced, officials said.

CHESTERFIELD -- With summer right around the corner, the Chesterfield County Building Inspection Department has made backyard safety the focus as it recognizes May as Building Safety Month. Building officials are encouraging county residents to take time now to ensure their decks and pools are ready for some safe summertime fun.
Each year, hundreds of people are injured as a result of deck failures or collapses, which can be prevented with regular maintenance. According to the International Code Council Foundation, roughly half of the 40 million decks in the United States are in need of repairs or rebuilding. Chesterfield County building officials recommend the following:

Passaic County is about to make good on its $90 million promise to improve conditions at the Preakness Healthcare Center in Wayne, where a three-year renovation project is in its final stages.
Construction of the new wing at the county nursing home is now finished and awaiting final safety inspection by the state. Should the building pass the inspection, residents are expected to begin moving into the wing within four to six weeks.
