EUREKA - An increase in building permit fees will generate added revenue for Woodford County and offset administrative costs. The Woodford County Board voted 12-2 to drastically increase building permit fees. The increases only apply to unincorporated areas of the county.

While picking up my daughter, a high school student taking a class at Pasadena City College, I received a parking citation when I parked in the guest lot as I walked to the building to get her. A group of Missouri utility companies wants the law allowing a rate increase to cover the $40 million permit cost. Most lawmakers favor the change as a step toward building a new nuclear power plant at the Callaway site, but a few well-placed senators are blocking the bill as a favor primarily to Noranda Aluminum Co., Ameren Missouri's largest electric customer, which enjoys the lowest electric rate in the state.
