Crossroads Roofing Supply owner Mike Curtis expects to see the price of shingles rise as much as 40 percent by July 1 from the beginning of 2011 due to a series of severe storms and tornadoes in the region coupled with high crude oil prices earlier this year. He's tired of the misconception that price gouging by shrewd contractors and suppliers drive up building supply costs after storms. In reality, prices are driven by raw materials costs and supply and demand, he said.
