The 2010 LaCrosse is Super-Buick, but will buyers see past Clark Kent's glasses?

Referencing Buick's most famous designs from the last century, the 2010 updates the look for this one. Inside, Buick designers on two continents have devised a stunning space; it's one of GM's best interiors designs in years, if not decades. The cabin's tomb-like silence is impressive. There's sufficient room both front and rear, but the trunk is surprisingly small. Skip the 182- horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine; it's too little engine for too much car. While the 255-horsepower, 3.0-liter V6 on the CXL will be enough for most drivers, the 280-horsepower V6 really makes this car feel like a proper luxury car while returning better fuel economy than the smaller V6.

Don't judge a book by its cover: The Buick LaCrosse, taking over this year for the Regal and Century, may be conservative in design, but it will impress once you step inside.

The Buick name is synonymous with old-world, North American car building and V8 power, power that's finally added to the LaCrosse line for 2008.
The front-wheel-drive 5.3-liter-V8 application is hardly new since it has already appeared in the Chevrolet Impala and Monte Carlo. In Buick's case, it is part of a new "Super" model, a name plucked from Buick's history vault. Despite its relatively low-tech cam-in-block architecture, the 5.3 features variable valve timing for a broad power range as well as cylinder deactivation that shuts down half the engine to conserve fuel under light- and no-load conditions such as idling or coasting downhill.

Over the years, Buick has had some memorable slogans, including "Wouldn't you really rather have a Buick?" and "When better automobiles are built, Buick will build them.
With the introduction of the 2005 Buick LaCrosse, here's a suggestion for a new one: "Looks aren't everything."

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., June 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Federal-Mogul Corporation's (NASDAQ: FDML) innovative, environmentally-friendly QuietShield GRN insulation product that first debuted on the 2010 Buick LaCrosse also will be used by General Motors to help eliminate cabin noise in the new 2012 Buick Verano. Comprised of recycled cardboard packaging and other byproducts normally discarded at a vehicle manufacturing plant, QuietShield(R) GRN (Green Non-woven) is used as acoustical material in the Verano's headliner to reduce noise in the passenger compartment. QuietShield GRN represents an effective solution, versus traditional noise-dampening materials, that helps reduce waste disposal and associated costs.

If it's true parents always want their children to do better than they did, the Buick Regal and Century must be proud.
The Century and Regal were stolid, unassuming midsize sedans. There wasn't much reason to buy them beyond their quality and price. They had been the heart of Buick's lineup for years. From those humble roots springs the 2005 LaCrosse, a midsize sedan and in many ways good enough to compete with cars such as the Lexus ES 330.

GM to recall some Chevys and Buicks
General Motors is recalling some 2012 Chevrolet Impala and Buick LaCrosse models to fix safety problems.

When a 2010 Buick LaCrosse passes David Briggs on the road, he may think about what's inside the vehicle's roof headliner rather than about the vehicle's sleek lines.
Briggs - an Evansville businessman and independent geologist - helped develop an environmentally friendly product that helps General Motors eliminate noise in the LaCrosse's cabin by placing the material in the roof headliner.
