Hillary's learning something about loyalty. A friend dropped by for a cup of coffee the other day after a visit to her mother at Leisure World, where the wealthy live in leisurely retirement. "Hillary has the Bubby Brigade behind her," she said, shaking her head in wonder. Nobody knows this better than Bill Clinton, who went to tea with the Leisure World ladies a day or two before the Potomac primaries. Older women are not necessarily Bill's cup of tea, but the ladies - many of them "senior feminists" - were thrilled. They want to see a woman in the White House before they die.
Nice thoughts, but identity politics is rarely so benign as these ladies suggest. This election campaign is largely driven by personality, and identity politics covers a multitude of sinners tempted to indulge gr...

The Real Housewives of New Jersey" thrives on drama. Tell-all books? Sex-tape scandals? The effect of new bubbies on longtime hubbies? Bring it on.
So, it was baffling how Bravo handled a true bombshell that should have exploded in last Monday's episode. Dina Manzo of Franklin Lakes was leaving the show because she just couldn't take dealing with fellow housewife Danielle Staub anymore -- and Bravo told viewers in a postscript.

One evening a couple of years ago, PBS' Jim Lehrer made a brief, straightforward announcement at the end of his "NewsHour" broadcast: Roger Rosenblatt was retiring from the TV program for which he had long delivered impeccable, thoughtful essays. It turned out that the acclaimed journalist, novelist, playwright and teacher had just lost his only daughter, Amy Solomon, a 38-year-old pediatrician and mother of three. She died of cardiac arrest while exercising at home. Her sudden death was attributed to an "anomalous coronary artery.
Mr. Rosenblatt and his wife, Ginny, a former kindergarten and first-grade teacher, immediately left behind their five-bedroom Long Island house for the guest room in the home of their son-in-law, Harris Solomon, a hand surgeon in Bethesda. A family tragedy h...

Our house, like countless others, will be filled with family for the Thanksgiving weekend. Our son and daughter-in-law and their two young children will travel from Boston to spend the holidays with us. We all adore indulging together in roast turkey and trimmings on the fourth Thursday of November, but truth be told, we are all just as crazy about the dishes we make the following days with the leftovers from this special meal.
I always buy a large bird so that there will be plenty of turkey remaining for sandwiches throughout the long weekend. Sometimes, we assemble hot turkey combos, ladling gravy over mounds of meat set atop toasted bread. On other occasions, Dagwood-style turkey clubs or turkey-and-cranberry panini grace our table. This year, I'm adding a new sandwich -- Turkey Reub...
