There's a lot to like about the latest Mozilla Firefox browser upgrade. Microsoft's Internet Explorer may still enjoy the lion's share of the browser market -- some 55 percent of users prefer the software giant's browser -- but the folks at Mozilla are in this race to win it. The new version 4 may indeed gain converts.
The upgrade joined the trend set by Google Chrome a couple of years back by sporting a simple interface, maximizing space for viewing Web content while neatly tucking away powerful features that are a click away.

It's spring, and a young person's thoughts turn to .. Web browsers Well, probably not so much, given what you can see on the Mall or any number of nightclubs, but for those whose romance may be online - and for the rest of us - this new season seems to signal the arrival of new and potentially new (i.e., Beta version) tools with which we can surf the Internet.
Microsoft Corp. bowed Internet Explorer 9 the other day. It's Windows-only, and the firm's goal is to move website developers (and, by extension, site visitors) from older versions to the new one. Microsoft Corp. is giving its Web browser software its first major upgrade in years, amid signs that Internet Explorer's market share is eroding. Today's release brings Microsoft's browser more in line with competing products such as Opera Software ASA's Opera and Mozilla Corp.'s Firefox. Internet Explorer 7, or IE7, adds features such as tabbed browsing, which lets people open several Web pages without cluttering their desktops with multiple open browser windows. Microsoft has been heavily testing the new browser, releasing five beta versions over 14 months, and has periodically offered security updates for IE6, first released in 2001.
