Personal income in Greater New Haven rose 4.7 percent in 2006, to $41,094 on a per capita basis compared with $39,292 in 2005, the U.S. Department of Commerce reported Tuesday.
The Bridgeport-Stamford-Norwalk area had the highest per capita income in the nation in 2006, at $71,901, up 6.9 percent from 2005. (Per capita personal income is the total income of all residents divided by the number of residents in the area measured.)

Per capita personal income in the New Haven-Milford area grew 6.1 percent to $38,254 in 2004, ranking it 25th among 361 metro areas nationwide, the U.S. Department of Commerce reported Tuesday. The region fared slightly better than it did in 2003, when per capita income averaged $36,046, ranking New Haven-Milford 27th among the metro areas that the department's Bureau of Economic Analysis tracks. The 2004 data is the most recent available.
The Bridgeport-Stamford-Norwalk area again topped the national rankings. That area, Greater Hartford and the New London area, also saw per capita income increase, from 4.7 percent to 6.5 percent, in 2004 compared with 2003.
