As players beginning their NHL careers, Brian Lawton and George McPhee could'nt have been more different. } Lawton, the No. 1 overall pick in the 1983 draft, played in the NHL as an 18-year- old. McPhee was never drafted and he debuted with the New York Rangers in 1983 at age 24. } The two top decision-makers for rival hockey teams couldn't have constructed their rosters much differently either. Who is Brian Lawton and how will he juggle being general manager of both the Lightning and the Admirals ?
Lawton, a left wing, had 266 points in 483 NHL games with six teams. In 1983, the Minnesota North Stars made him the first U.S.- born and only U.S. high school player ever taken No. 1 in the draft. He was burdened with that throughout his career - selected ahead of Steve Yzerman, Cam Neely and Pat LaFontaine. Later, Lawton was an agent . To make this work, he'll rely on the input of coach Darren Rumble and his staff. And remember, a minor league hockey general manager isn't like Dave Rosenfield running the Tides . Lawton's focus is on players, coaches and trainers. Admirals president Ken Young and vice president Joe Gregory run the business side here.

Shannon, R-Lawton, said they would use the upcoming legislative session to focus on changes in workers' compensation laws and would look at new ways to reduce the state's income tax. The pair made the announcement during a public affairs luncheon sponsored by the State Chamber of Oklahoma.
