Coming soon . . . Telegraph Herald executive editor Brian Cooper is currently researching and writing a full biography of Jay Berwanger. His biographies of Red Faber and Ray Schalk were published by McFarland & Co., Jefferson, N.C. Seventy-five years ago this week, Jay Berwanger, the 21-year-old son of a Dubuque blacksmith, took his first airplane ride. His destination was New York, where the Downtown Athletic Club had named him the best college football player east of the Mississippi River.

Monday's Telegraph Herald's included an article that mentioned Brian Cooper. But it wasn't me.
Brian Cooper scored three goals to lead Archbiship Spalding to an 8-5 victory over McDonogh in boys lacrosse yesterday. The loss ended the Eagles' eight-game win streak. Matt Franchak scored twice to lead Spalding to its fifth straight victory, while Luke Dick, Wade Korvin and Conor McRoy all added goals.
