CALGARY - After Pete DeBoer was fired by the Florida Panthers last April, as he was weighing his options in his search for a new job, one of those he went to for advice was former Devils coach Brent Sutter.
Sutter, who left the Devils after the 2008-09 season to be closer to his family in Alberta and ended up as head coach of the Flames, briefly discussed with DeBoer the idea of him joining Sutter's staff in Calgary. That was among the "different scenarios" they talked about, including the potential for DeBoer to become head coach of the Devils.
