LOS ANGELES, Jan. 25 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Today, CauseForce, Inc. announced its 2005 event season, including the inaugural Weekend to Breakthrough Breast Cancer, a two-day, 60 kilometer walk through London to raise funds for breast cancer research and education. In the announcement, CauseForce also pointed to healthy growth in the Canadian market with its expansion of The Weekend to End Breast Cancer to four cities: Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, and Montreal. The company's 2005 growth comes on top of two successful years of events in Toronto and Vancouver. Memphis doctors are helping to bring a promising new medication to market for patients whose breast cancer has been resistant to other cancer-fighting drugs. The West Clinic, which treats cancer patients throughout the Mid- South, has begun enrolling people in a clinical trial to test the possible breakthrough drug.
Breast cancer clinical trials have resulted in breakthrough treatments to reduce the incidence of the disease or slow its progression, but few cancer patients participate in trials, often because of fears and misconceptions, medical experts said. Only 3 to 5 percent of adult eligible cancer patients participate in trials. That is a major barrier to advancing knowledge about breast cancer prevention and treatment," said Elly Cohen, program director of BreastCancerTrials.org, a nonprofit organization based in San Francisco.
