As the summer season starts, bed and breakfasts and country inns across America are gearing up for a banner year-providing travelers and vacationers with popular amenities that were formerly available mainly in big hotels. Among other things, these include spas, pools, gourmet dining and complimentary Internet access. Many inns include amenities such as restaurants that are open to the public, as well as facilities for wedding receptions and business meetings, among other activities. A long list of enhancements to the standard insurance forms is automatically included with most policies. One of the key challenges facing agents and brokers in this line is determining the value of the building and its contents in order to come up with the proper replacement coverage.

For a kid who gets decent grades and is headed to college next year, my 17-year-old son can be a knucklehead about breakfast. If something isn't at his fingertips as he stumbles out the door on his way to early morning football practice, he'll go without.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day for many, and for years Memphians have flocked to Brother Juniper's near the University of Memphis when it's time to fuel up for the coming day. The popular diner has topped plenty of best-of lists and has been featured on national television shows, including Rachael Ray's "$40 a Day.
Ray featured the San Diegan omelet, the most-ordered item on the menu. But owner Jonathan Koplin says that's not the reason customers order it; rather it's because "it's out of the ballpark." Inspired by a customer from San Diego, it's a bed of sour cream and home fries topped with portobello mushrooms, tomatoes, bacon, green onions, feta and cheddar cheese.

Good enough for legislators
Sen. Ken Lambert and his Republican colleagues on the Joint Budget Committee recently killed funding through the end of this year for the School Breakfast program. I am saddened that we seem to think that we cannot afford investing in our youngest and most vulnerable citizens.

A coalition of local faith-based organizations has an offer for the Colorado Legislature: If you won't cough up the money to continue providing free breakfasts to kids through the end of the school year, we will.
Rajeev Shaw, executive director of the Community Roundtable and an employee of Focus on the Family, said Friday the group's leadership is prepared to hand over $124,229 to keep the Start Smart Nutrition Program going.
