Chamber music is classical music's more intimate side -- a smaller ensemble, a smaller venue -- and, often, a sense of collaboration among friends. At 7:30 p.m. Saturday, St. Joseph University Church plays host to a free concert by the Fredonia-based Western New York Chamber Orchestra. The concert features the Bach Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 featuring Bach specialist Father Sean Duggan. The concert is also a rare chance to hear the glorious Schubert Mass in C, sung by the SUNY Fredonia College Choir and faculty soloists Shinobu Takagi, Laurie Tramuta, Joe Dan Harper and James Wright. St. Joseph University Church is at 3269 Main St. Admission is free.
The Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra will premiere a neglected masterwork and showcase a new concertmaster in Saturday's Classics concert in The Victory. Gared Crawford, the orchestra's new acting concertmaster, will make his center-stage debut as part of a featured trio in the orchestra's premiere performance of J.S. Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 5.
R&B Kelly Rowland, "Here I Am" (Universal Motown). Ever since her heyday with Destiny's Child, Kelly Rowland has struggled to define her solo singing career, unlike former bandmate Beyonce, arguably pop's ultimate superstar. Rowland's first two albums showed promise but were subpar on the whole. Now with her latest release, "Here I Am," she makes another attempt to show she has finally found her musical niche. Rowland's latest album is filled mostly with R&B melodies and some European uptempo dance tracks. She displays confidence in her self-worth with a few songs that should compel you to press replay. One in particular is her chart-topping single "Motivation," featuring Lil Wayne, which proves that she has the potential to fully carry herself as a solo artist. The sexy voc...

Meanwhile, the Roycroft Chamber Music Series and Bach and Beyond are bringing music to the countryside.
