MORGANTOWN - The Bowling Green defense that No. 22 West Virginia will see Saturday afternoon at Mountaineer Field has been pretty good this season. It ranks No. 22 in total defense, No. 35 in scoring defense and No. 11 in pass efficiency defense, all of which are valuable for the Falcons as they play the pass prone Mountaineers at 3:30 p.m. (ROOT Sports telecast).
Verdict that Bowling Green student could not be saved after medical problems materialized was not against the manifest weight of the evidence.
While Bowling Green's announcement of a $10 million donation to the men's basketball program doesn't rival the $300 million television deal Texas landed with ESPN, it could be the boost necessary for the program to finally start competing for Mid- American Conference championships. Bowling Green not only hasn't advanced to the NCAA Tournament since 1968, but success in the MAC Tournament has also been hard to come by. The Falcons have appeared in the MAC Finals just twice (1980 and 2002) and lost both times. They've played in the conference semifinals just once since 2002.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell continued Friday to put pressure on the Obama administration, meeting with local officials in Kentucky and pressing his call for two Iraqis arrested on terrorism charges in his home state to be sent to Guantanamo Bay and face a military trial. Before this ill-advised decision to try these foreign terrorists in Bowling Green, I think I'm fairly safe in saying there's probably not a foreign terrorist in the world who could have found Bowling Green, Ky., on a map," McConnell said at a news conference in this south-central Kentucky college town. "They know where it is now.
The Duquesne offense went into hibernation for long stretches of Wednesday night's game against Bowling Green. The Falcons even scored 17 of 18 points at one point. But an early 12-point deficit wasn't much of an obstacle for the fast-breaking Dukes. Eventually, their frenetic style turned momentum their way.
Despite a 69-38 rout of Bowling Green on Friday night, University of Dayton women's basketball coach Jim Jabir had some issues with his squad. He groused about the 20 turnovers, the 39-percent shooting from the field and a relatively scant number of points off fast breaks from players supposedly suited for an up-tempo pace.
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- West Virginia's players and coaches don't seem to put much stock in so-called "trap games. Still, with the emotion of last week's loss to SEC power LSU and Big East play starting next week, it could be easy to overlook this week's opponent, Bowling Green of the Mid-American Conference.
