Military personnel and their families are invited to a free home- buying boot camp offered by Atlantic Bay Mortgage Group and Nuvia Rivera and Associates. The event, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 10, will be held at 3630 South Plaza Trail, Virginia Beach, and will familiarize attendees with the home-buying process from start to finish.
As I read in the paper about parents having to send their children to "boot camp" because their children are out of control and do not respect authority, I wonder what happened! Today, more and more parents end up sending their children to a boot camp in hopes of that child learning respect. Today, because corporate greed and high taxes and the will just to survive has caused the breakdown of the family, the family has lost respect as well as control since both parents are required to work because of the need to survive. The days are gone when Mom stayed at home and made sure the kids were taken care of while Dad was at work, as the cost of living has risen dramatically and wages have not! Mom now needs to work to supplement the income of one parent. That also means a higher tax bracket...
BLOOMINGTON - Emily Blaudow doesn't look like a drill sergeant, but she runs a boot camp in the Twin Cities just the same. Whether it's her MyLeanBody Boot Camp for women or another exercise program, a gym membership or just a commitment to walk more or try a new sport, fitness experts like her expect more people to enlist in some form of physical activity as Jan. 1 nears.
We are proud to say we have witnessed the graduation of the second of our granddaughters to finish boot camp in the United States Navy. Rebekah did us proud at her recent graduation at Great Lakes, Ill. She was in what was called "the triple threat unit." Besides doing all the other things that recruits were required to do, her unit was the entertainers for graduations being comprised of a band, a choir and a rifle group. She was in the choir. We were looking forward to seeing her group because she had been chosen to sing a duet with a young man to begin the National Anthem. Unfortunately, he lost his voice and they were unable to do it although they had performed together at the graduation the previous week.
As a contestant on season 12 of "The Biggest Loser," Jessica Limpert lost 80 pounds and gained a new career. Limpert, a registered nurse from Murrysville, has signed on as a personal trainer for Biggest Loser Resort Niagara in western New York. It opens in May. We are going to bring that 'Biggest Loser' show experience," says Limpert, a sunny blonde who seems more cheerleader than drill sergeant. If timing were the only factor, Tiffany Redman honestly would prefer a morning workout to the evening routine she now has. But Redman, an almost-40 Charleston lawyer, believes she has been successful in weight loss and fitness because of the camaraderie she found with her 5:15 p.m. boot camp class. Taught by Jeff Charles, the class has turned out a number of success stories, from weight loss to improved health statistics such as blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Charles, who also teaches two early morning classes, said there is something unique about his evening group. They really encourage each other, he said. Redman, who was athletic in her youth, said she was less so as an adult. And she smoked. She took the first step to health by quitting that habit and then gained 30 pounds....
You might not think students would be clamoring to volunteer for academic boot camp. But they were - in extra sessions over the summer no less -- at Bergen Community College.
DAYTON -- The Greater Dayton Association of Black Journalists is accepting applications for its eighth annual High School Journalism Boot Camp. The Miami Valley organization includes print, broadcast and online journalists. It is also seeking candidates for its Derek Ali Memorial Fund Scholarship for students pursuing careers in journalism and related fields.
