NEW HAVEN -- The bomb threats come in with such regularity that West River residents would roll their collective eyes if the inconvenience weren't so great and the prospect so frightening.

PARKERSBURG - Investigations into bomb scares at three Wood County schools this month took an emotional and financial toll on law enforcement agencies and families.
The threats at Parkersburg High School and Neale Elementary School on March 8 and Williamstown High School on Monday prompted evacuations and full searches by the city's bomb-detection dog. The buildings were cleared quickly by law enforcement agencies, but fake threats have the potential to cause a lot of damage, police said.

PETERSBURG - Courthouses in Petersburg and Dinwiddie were closed part of the day Tuesday after multiple bomb threats were phoned in to law enforcement authorities.
In Petersburg, authorities received three bomb threats in a span of a several hours. Following subsequent searches of court buildings, the courts were reopened.

PETERSBURG - Police in Petersburg and Prince George are investigating bomb threats that were phoned in to Petersburg Police on Tuesday morning and that led to a delay in court cases here and a closure of court in Prince George County.
Petersburg Sheriff Vanessa Crawford said the threat was received by the police department before 9 a.m.

BREWER A Brewer man who reportedly made bomb threats at a Wilson Street hotel and a neighboring restaurant in April was arrested Monday by Brewer Police.
Police were called to the hotel at 7 p.m. April 30 and due to the nature of the threats, which were made directly to hotel staff by telephone, the hotel was evacuated and a search was conducted, Detective Sgt. Jay Munson said in a press release.

A prisoner who sent a federal judge a letter with fake anthrax is allegedly at it again, according to Memphis police, this time using the U.S. Postal Service to send bomb threats.
Two Memphis businesses, two schools, a museum, a bank in Collierville and a store in Parsons, Tenn., all received letters Tuesday that said a bomb was hidden in the buildings.

NEW HAVEN -- Two city high schools were evacuated for a short time Monday following bomb threats, officials said. The first threat, concerning Cooperative Arts and Humanities Interdistrict Magnet School, 177 College St. occurred at 9:56 a.m. and emptied that building, and also affected New Haven Academy 444 Orange St., city spokeswoman Jessica Mayorga said.
New Haven Academy was not evacuated, but officials said there was a police presence there as a precaution.

With so many diverse agendas, and more than 40 sitting judges in session at any one time, plus eight retired judges filling in when necessary, security is of the essence. Since 1999, it has been up to Sheriff John Aubrey to maintain that safety, and according to the recent review of the facility by the National Sheriffs' Association, he and his staff handle their responsibilities very well.

Anthony Madu, 50, was more embarrassed than anything when several cops took him from his garage at 1642 Chapel St. and ushered him down his driveway to encounter even more officers with handguns and rifles at the ready.
