Bolton High School in Arlington has been confirmed as an International Baccalaureate school, one of four schools in the Memphis area certified to award the globally recognized diploma.
With its recent approval, Bolton became the second school in the Shelby County Schools system to offer the rigorous academic program. Germantown High was the first I.B. school in West Tennessee.

One teenager was killed and three others were critically injured Tuesday afternoon when their pickup left the road and struck a tree about 3 miles from Bolton High School.
Rachel Lutrell, 14, was killed just after 2:30 p.m. when a Ford F- 150 pickup, which police said was traveling at a high speed, hit a tree just off Old Brunswick south of Bolton High.

Bolton principal David Stephens said Friday he plans to appeal a Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association ruling that the school's football team must forfeit nine games for its use of an ineligible player.
Stephens on Thursday reported the team's inadvertent use of an ineligible player in its first nine games to TSSAA executive director Ronnie Carter. He said he will appeal the organization's ruling Monday in Nashville to the TSSAA's Board of Control.

Mourning family, friends and Bolton High School students poured into the Memphis Funeral Home chapel on Germantown Parkway Wednesday, with many forced to stand among bouquets of pink roses and lilies.
They wept for Bolton High senior Amanda Hillin, who was killed Sunday on Walnut Grove near Farm Road in an auto accident when the GMC Yukon she was riding in collided with a red Honda that was changing lanes.

Bolton High School's third 5K Fun Walk/Run on March 1 attracted 178 participants, surpassing last year's number of participants by 100.
The annual event was hosted by Bolton's Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) to raise funds to maintain and expand new and existing programs, such as the high school's "Project Graduation," an all-night, alcohol- and drug-free lock-in party organized for the senior class at Gameday Sports Academy at 7790 Fischer Steel Road in Cordova. The event was originally formed to keep youngsters off the roads and out of trouble.
