Ten regional women artists are exhibiting their art in "Bodywork" in the Birke Art Gallery at Marshall University in conjunction with the Feminist Art Project. The Feminist Art Project is a collaborative, national initiative celebrating the Feminist Art Movement and the aesthetic, intellectual and political impact of women on the visual arts, art history and art practice, past and present.

This year's creative fiberglass offering starts with a willing model, plaster gauze, a little water and olive oil. Apply the olive oil, apply the gauze, smooth the plaster, apply a little heat and you have an almost exact reproduction of the female (or male) form. The technique, taught to [Dick Moody] by his old friend, Jeff Nancarvis, who has been doing facial casts and entire bodies for many years, is taken to the next level. Fiberglass originals from the plaster cast are pulled and as with the lost wax casting the mold is destroyed. The possibilities for reproduction are endless with this method. The finish on the fiberglass is prepared as you would a fiberglass car or boat: sand, fill, prime, sand, fill, prime and paint.

LEWISTON - Central Maine Medical Center will offer another Thai Yoga Bodywork workshop on Friday, April 21. Marcy Covey, a certified Thai Yoga Bodywork practitioner, will introduce participants to a form of yoga that incorporates a type of massage performed on a floor mat. The session will focus on gentle massage techniques for the feet, back, neck and head.
