On the eve of today's Evansville Redevelopment Commission meeting, four out of nine Evansville City Council members signed a letter urging the board to reconsider naming SMG as the management company of the Downtown arena. Despite the letter, Bob Goldman, the commission president, said he plans to support VenuWorks, based in Ames, Iowa, as the manger for the facility scheduled to open in November.
In an interview, Burdale Financial Ltd founder and chairman Dennis Levine talked about doing business in the UK, Europe and the US, and the future of asset-based lending (ABL) in the UK. Levine started a trade finance business in the UK, and had heard about ABL in the US. Buying and demolishing the Executive Inn to make room for an arena is an option the city is considering, Bob Goldman, president of the Redevelopment Commission said Tuesday. Arena manager John J. Kish met with the commission Tuesday morning in a closed-door meeting to discuss land acquisition strategies, and the Executive Inn is one of several sites "still on the table," Goldman said.
It may have been a telling moment Tuesday when, after Evansville Technology Council Chairman Daniel Bugher finished updating the Redevelopment Commission on the city's Certified Technology Park, commission President Bob Goldman asked him, "Can you provide us with some scenarios? NEW YORK (Reuters) - Kohlberg Kravis & Roberts is hiring part of Goldman Sachs Group Inc.'s proprietary trading team, which is being shut down due to new restrictions on such trading. KKR is hiring about nine Goldman traders, led by Bob Howard, who heads Principal Strategies for Goldman's U.S. business. The team will be part of KKR's asset management unit, which manages $13 billion, and will join early in 2011.
The city's Redevelopment Commission unanimously passed a resolution Thursday expanding Evansville's Downtown Redevelopment Area, but tabled a second part of the resolution calling for the addition of 52 parcels of land to the city's possible acquisition list. Commission President Bob Goldman said the vote had to be tabled because two of the commissioners had to abstain from voting because of conflicts of interest. That left too few members voting to form a quorum.
