The Rev. , a native of Petersburg, Va., died June 16, 2006, in Monrovia, Liberia, at the age of 87. The Rev. Robertson, an Episcopal priest, had returned to Liberia in 2004, with his wife, Marilyn, to live his final years and to encourage others to return and rebuild the educational and theological institutions, destroyed by years of civil war. He first went to Liberia in 1944, as an Episcopal missionary and remained there until 1984. From 1945 to 1971 he resided in Robertsport, Liberia, serving as the Rector and Achdeacon of St. Johns and principal for schools K-secondary in Cape Mount County and interior Missions. This article explores the public images and citizenship status of Turkish-citizen Kurds in Turkey. Kurds in Turkey mostly have been seen as prospective-Turks and accordingly have been subject to the assimilationist practices of citizenship throughout the Republican period. However, recent signs suggest that this image and status of the Kurds are not as secure as they once were. Kurds are now perceived by many as pseudo-citizens. A historical reading of citizenship practices in Turkey indicates that this change in the Kurds' image may be accompanied by a change in their citizenship status and that they may now be subject to the discriminatory practices of citizenship.
