A grant will help expand the Safe Routes to School program, or SR2S, to 30 additional schools. The SR2S program was developed to encourage and enable students to walk or bike to school. It includes the development of a five-point action plan that educates students, parents and the community; encourages students to safely walk or bike to school; enforces rules and laws that keep walkers and bikers safe; engineers environmental changes for safe passage; and evaluates the impact of SR2S.

DETROIT, Dec. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan announced an agreement today with Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette that continues, until at least August 2016, a unique benefit provided by Blue Cross for Michigan's Medicare beneficiaries - deeply discounted premiums for Medicare Supplemental insurance, commonly known as "Medigap.
The discounts reduce the premiums for BCBSM's "Medigap Plan C" by $73 per month from the full rate of $194 per month to the $121 per month that beneficiaries actually pay for their coverage. The discounts are funded by subsidies collected by BCBSM from Michigan businesses and individuals that purchase Blue Cross health coverage. These subsidies are mandated by the State of Michigan.

The switch will save out-of-pocket costs for eligible Blues members, and member out-of-pocket savings may total $9 million overall, according to Blues estimates. Eligible Blues members switching to Prilosec OTC or the generic version of Prilosec from Nexium will pay nothing for the first prescription/supply of the drug, and they only will pay their normal generic drug co-payment for subsequent prescriptions.
A Blues member whose monthly copayment is $10 for a generic drug and $20 for a brand name drug could save around $130 a year using Prilosec OTC or generic Prilosec instead of Nexium. The savings are calculated on the basis of a year's supply of a brand name drug.

DETROIT, Nov., 16, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan extends its heartiest congratulations to the Michigan Department of Community Health and the fellow Michigan health plans that are participating in a national demonstration project that will improve the quality and safety of health care statewide.
Michigan is one of eight states approved to participate in a Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) demonstration project that will evaluate how to pay health professionals who improve patient care through a patient-centered medical home. Of the more than 1,200 physician practices expected to participate in this project nationally, approximately 480 will be in Michigan.
