WEST Virginia will draw international attention Sunday night when CNN broadcasts a Soledad O'Brien documentary titled "Battle for Blair Mountain: Working in America." The 8 p.m. show outlines the ongoing struggle to restore the famed Logan County peak to the National Register of Historic Places and halt plans to strip-mine the site.
Most of the film deals with the never-ending conflict between industrial jobs and nature protection. It chronicles this summer's re-enactment march from Marmet to Logan County by hundreds of social activists. From the opposite side, it displays miners and coal officials who say families and the economy will suffer if mountaintop removal mining is curtailed.
