South Charleston's Paul Underwood drives for a layup on Saturday night, March 15, 1952, at the jam-packed Morris Harvey College fieldhouse. The player whose face is visible as he trails Underwood is none other than Charleston High's Rod Hundley.
The Black Eagles won the regional championship 51-45 to advance to the state tournament the following week in Morgantown, where they fell to eventual champion Beckley.

To say "a certain car does everything well" is often an overstatement. The goal of many auto aficionados is to build a car that is a better performer than one that can be purchased off the showroom floor. Occasionally, a car comes along for the very serious enthusiast that performs out of the ordinary right from the factory. The 2007 Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG Black Series is one of these.
To own a Mercedes-Benz is usually enough for most drivers. Add the AMG designation and you have a car with above average handling abilities and more power than most require. Now, with the addition of the Black Series badge, the performance "cat is out of the bag". The Black Series line has more power and less weight than regular AMG products and satisfies the most discriminating auto fanatics.

Job well done by Blagojevich jurors
The verdict in ole Rod's trial should not be "viewed as black eye for state" as one headline in Tuesday's paper states. The verdict should be viewed as a "white eye" - if there is such a thing.

SPRINGFIELD - Rod Blagojevich's former Statehouse colleagues say his criminal conviction Monday is both a black eye for the state and a chance to move forward.
In the hours after a federal jury found the Chicago Democrat guilty of 17 of 20 counts of extortion, bribery, corruption and fraud, those who served alongside him during his tenure in Springfield said they believe Blagojevich was more interested in his political career than in governing.

What you don't know can kill you. Those who fail to learn from the lessons of history are condemned to repeat them." If Plasdco Burress fails to learn from the lessons of Michael Vick, they will come back to haunt him. No Black person who walks through the "valley of death," without a rod or staff for comfort, stands a good chance of surviving the trek.
Black's Law Dictionary is the "Bible" of American jurisprudence. If a word is not in Black's Law Dictionary, it is not a legal term. "Animal rights" is not mentioned in this dictionary and for good reason. In order for an entity to enjoy rights, it must also be able to undertake responsibilities. The term "animal rights" is not even a legal fiction.
The 13th Amendment was penned to only apply to descendants of enslaved Africans. It is re...

The one thing that Jet Black Stare lead singer Rod Black doesn't want to do is take anything for granted. Especially since the band has been signed to a major label, Universal Records.
When we got signed, we knew that's when the real work had to start," Black said during a phone interview from the band's stop in Houston. "You never know how long this will last. And you need to savor every moment of it and make sure we give each show and recording 100 percent.

A Black child, on the other hand, is prison bait. White prosecutors are lying in wait for the Black parent who believes that, "If you spare the rod, you will spoil the child." [Joyce Y. Beddell] had been a model citizen, but in the Black experience, you must never make a single mistake. If you do, it is "gotcha.

Because of the doctrine of jus soli and the 14th Amendment, Sen. John McCain is not a U.S. citizen, but he is free to run for the presidency of the United States on the ticket of a major political party. If Sen. Barack ...

When [Bill Cosby] made his famous (or infamous), "These people [lower economic people] are not holding up their end of the bargain (speaking about what many thought was a sweeping indictment of poor people)" speech, at an NAACP commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education in May, 2004, half of Black America screamed bloody murder, and the other half praised Cosby for his straight talk on what we all knew was true. Critics, with scholar Michael Eric Dyson leading the discussion, said the discussion should have been held "among family" and not out in public. Dyson took the debate public by writing a best selling book, Is Bill Cosby Right? (Or Has The Black Middle Class Lost Its Mind?), but Bill Cosby was the lightening rod to make Black America re-evaluate its valu...

CHICAGO (AP) - A defiant Gov. Rod Blagojevich on Tuesday appointed a black political trailblazer in Illinois to Barack Obama's former U.S. Senate seat, a surprise move that put race front and center in the ongoing drama surrounding the scandal-tarred governor.
The decision put his opponents in the uncomfortable position of vowing not to seat a veteran politician who would become the Senate's only black member.

AT 7:04 P.M. Thursday at Appalachian Power Park, we were treated to a strange sight, but one that lets you know all is right with the world.
Rod Blackstone, resplendent in a gaudy yet color-coordinated tuxedo featuring black jacket with a gold vest and bowtie, took his place behind home plate, just toward the visitor's dugout. He picked up, of all things, a Sears bag.
