Changes aimed at increasing government's transparency and raising penalties for late campaign finance reports will be reviewed by a legislative panel today.
The Veterans and Legal Affairs Committee also is scheduled to work on a series of bills that would affect Maine's Clean Election public campaign financing system, and a measure calling for a one- year waiting period for anyone who wants to go from being a lawmaker to a lobbyist.

Buffalo Bills fans may grow weary of their team's performance on the field, but don't let anyone say they're going to let their team look bad in finance.
Earlier this month, Visa Inc. released an unusual ranking showing Bills fans near the bottom of all 32 NFL teams in financial literacy skills, based on their performance in a free, online personal finance video game called Financial Football. The Bills came in 27th.

Utah lawmakers have been somewhat less than enthusiastic for "reforming" their own campaign finance rules. But a number of such bills have been filed for the 2008 Legislature, with legislators across the political spectrum saying it is time to tighten up their own reporting to ensure a more level financial playing field.
Fines for violations could run more than $1,000.

Under Stevens Brady's plan, fans would loan money to the next owner of the Buffalo Bills by purchasing low-interest bonds -- called Bills Bonds -- that would reduce a new owner's often- choking interest payments.

President Obama isn't being straight when he says current health care proposals don't provide government funding for abortion. They do. If Democratic plans are passed, your taxes will pay for abortions.
