A Giles County nonprofit is working to clean up a near quarter- million-dollar IRS problem stemming from three years of unpaid taxes.
The Pearisburg-based Giles County Housing and Development Corp. owes $216,000 in payroll taxes, while three organizational leaders may also be personally liable for $37,000. The agency blames negligence from its Richmond-based accounting firm for the unpaid taxes.

AutoZone's board of directors has approved the repurchase of an additional $500 million of the company's common stock. The move is connected with the Memphis-based retailer's repurchase program, which has acquired about $8.9 billion of common stock since it began in 1998.
