'PRIDE' NEEDS LOCAL SUPPORT TO GROW HEALTHILY
I, along with thousands of other Santa Feans, am celebrating diversity and fairness during Pride Week, June 20-28. There is one note of concern however: The event is sponsored in part by a grant from a big tobacco corporation. The LBGTQI (lesbian, bisexual, gay, transgendered, queer and intersex) community in New Mexico smokes at about twice the rate of the general population, according to a New Mexico Department of Health study.

LOS ANGELES - Northrop Grumman Corp., the last big-name aerospace company headquartered in Southern California, is headed out of town this week.
The nation's second-largest military contractor, founded in 1939 by visionary aircraft designer Jack Northrop, is officially moving its main office to Falls Church, Va., on Monday. It is a milestone for the corporation that along the way absorbed big names like TRW Inc., Litton Industries Inc., Westinghouse Electronic Systems and Teledyne Ryan Aeronautical.

The Corporation makes a convincing case that big business has extended its reach into every area of our lives-- from what and how we buy to how we raise our children to what we put into our bodies, voluntarily or not.
The effect, it suggests almost as effectively, adds up to marginalization of the individual and the community. The collective "we" are teetering on the brink of becoming the ultimate corporate acquisition.
