America's self-described toughest sheriff has issued a warning to the CEO of Craigslist saying the popular Internet website is providing a "mechanism to facilitate criminal activity. Sheriff Joe Arpaio's warning to Jim Buckmaster follows the arrest last month in Arizona by Maricopa County Sheriff's Office detectives of two men - one a middle school teacher and the other a handyman - on charges of conspiracy to commit bestiality.

DENVER - Democrats on Tuesday ripped the GOP's candidate for lieutenant governor, Janet Rowland, for comments she made in March comparing homosexuality with bestiality. Gubernatorial candidate Bob Beauprez selected Rowland, a Mesa County commissioner, as his running mate Monday. A spokesman for the Beauprez campaign said Rowland apologized for her comments and the issue should be dropped.

OLYMPIA -- People who have sex with animals should face a felony conviction for animal cruelty, says a Republican senator pushing for a ban on bestiality. Sen. Pam Roach, R-Auburn, is sponsoring the bill, which was prompted by a widely publicized Washington state case in which a man died of injuries suffered while having sex with a horse. The measure was aired Tuesday in the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Buffalo's Carl P. Paladino was scrambling to save his Republican candidacy for governor Monday after a local Web site released a string of pornographic and racially degrading e-mails that he acknowledged forwarding to a large group of friends. WNYMedia.net released e-mails showing naked women, demeaning depictions of blacks and President Obama, and one photo of a woman engaging in bestiality that it claimed were forwarded by Paladino.
