BERGENFIELD - The Board of Education awarded a $193,496 contract Monday afternoon to renovate the high school athletic field.
Turco Golf Inc of Suffern, N.Y., will widen the track, put down a rubberized top layer, refurbish and widen a grass field and construct new areas for high jump and pole vault events, said Business Administrator Thomas Egan.

RINGWOOD - The Board of Education has named Hugh Beattie, a principal in the Bergenfield School District, as the school district's new superintendent, at an annual salary of $154,000.
The contract starts Dec. 1 and runs through June 30, 2015. It caps annual raises at 2 percent, and has been approved by the state's liaison to school in Passaic County, county Superintendent of Schools Robert Gilmartin.

The Board of Education ruled 3-0 Monday to ask a Superior Court judge to decide whether to bar any of the candidates because of potential problems with their nominating petitions.
