A Bergen County anti-poverty agency is building a state-of-the- art training center to teach workers weatherization skills, funded by a $1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy, officials said Monday. The center, conceived by Bergen County Community Action Partnership Inc., will be funded with money from the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and is expected to train 80 workers over two years, the agency said.
A group of volunteer doctors and other health-care professionals moved closer Thursday to opening a clinic for the poor and uninsured of Bergen County. The Bergen Volunteer Medical Initiative Inc. hopes to begin treating patients in early 2009 at a rented space in downtown Hackensack. The group signed a lease with the Bergen County Community Action Partnership Inc., whose first-floor space it will be renting, at a ceremony Thursday.
In accordance with Section 102(a)(4)(C) of the Department of Housing and Urban Development Reform Act of 1989, this announcement notifies the public of past funding decisions made by the Department in a competition for funding under the FY2010 Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) for the Homeless Assistance Grants program. This announcement contains the names of the awardees and the amounts of the awards made available by HUD in 2010. A Federal Register notice on this action was not published at the time; however, the public was advised of these grant selections since they were posted on HUD's Web site. The posting contained a listing of the selected applicants, including descriptions of the projects.

First Bergen Federal Credit Union on Moore Street in Hackensack, the first credit union to be chartered in New Jersey in more than a decade, is out to entice low-income members who may need help establishing savings and credit. But anyone who lives, works, worships, volunteers or goes to school in Bergen County can join, said Joan Freling, secretary of the new credit union's board.
