  • ICM's penultimate meeting of the year took place at The Racquet Club. The first speaker was Ben Keen from D&B. Keen outlined the powerful tools that D&B have developed to help identify fraud by spotting unusual trends in data registered at Companies House. The second speaker was Andrew Homer from Baker Tilly, a senior manager in the practice's forensic services department based in Manchester. Homer advises banks and pension schemes on the financial strength of businesses. He endorsed Keen's comments about identity fraud and offered some surprising facts.

  • Triway's spring sports season came to a close as they honored their athletes at a recent banquet. Highlighting the evening was a conference championship for the boys track team, a runner-up finish for the baseball team and the softball squad coming in third. The boys track team presented four-year letters to Ben Rumbaugh and Nova Martin, with third-year honors going to Tyler Beckel, Dan Keen, Nate Klepper, Ben Schlabach, Stephan Shehy and Nathan Smith.

  • Ben," 76 of Mount Gretna, Pa. died Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon, Pa. Born in York Pa., he lived most of his life in Lancaster County, and graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1951. He served from March 1953 through February 1956 in the US Army with the ASA, and was stationed in Germany when the occupation ended. Upon returning home, he was employed with the Air Force at the Marietta Depot, later as an appraiser with the PA Dept of Revenue in Lancaster County. He retired from the PA Turnpike Commission at the Administration Building in 1991. Ben enjoyed his dogs, hunting, fishing and softball.   • In a rescheduled meet, Triway swept Tuscarawas Valley in a girls and boys Principals Athletic Conference meet Thursday. The THS boys rolled 85.5-51.5, while the girls were 78-58 winners. In the boys meet, Steve Shehy, Dan Keen and Ben Rumbaugh were double individual winners, with Shehy taking the high jump at 6-2 and the 110-meter hurdles in 15.4. Rumbaugh nipped teammate Tyler Beckel in the 100 as both clocked an 11.5, while also winning the 300 hurdles. Keen doubled up in the weights, tossing the platter 128- 7 and the shot 43-0.

  • NORTH AUGUSTA- Cynthia Nichole Barker and Wayne Jason Emmett Wollam were married at 6 p.m., Saturday, May 7, 2005 at the Alexander Home . Rev. Christopher Fulmer officiated. Nichole is the daughter of Ben and Debbye Alexander of North Augusta and James Keen of Augusta. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Mattie H. Branch and the late James Branch of Jackson, and Mr. Dewell (Red) Keen and the late Juanita W. Keen of Augusta.

  • Triway High School recently held its spring sports banquet, honoring Titan athletes from track, softball and baseball. The boys track team, coached by Mark Shutler, gave fourth-year plaques to Heath Clark and Broc Martin. Third-year plaques went to Chris Bates, Nova Martin and Ben Rumbaugh, while second-year plaques were awarded to Tyler Beckel, Dan Keen, Nate Klepper, Anthony McMahon, Kyle Raber, Stephan Shehy and Nate Smith. Winning their first letters were Isaac Silva, Nick Graf, Mitch Williams, Chris Raber, Trevor Hankins, Andy Frye, Adam Cruise, Justin Esselburn and Justin Byler.

  • TOPSHAM -- Junior Brandon Campbell had a stellar mound performance, pitching a no-hitter through eight innings as Oxford Hills subdued Mt. Ararat 2-0 in KVAC baseball action Monday.   • SAN BERNARDINO - Firefighters credited a neighbor's keen sense of smell in the rescue of a family of five, whose attic had been smoldering for hours early Tuesday before anyone called the Fire Department. The family in the 1200 block of North Perris Street had been sleeping while smoke filled their house. The smoke detector hadn't been activated because there was no battery in it, said San Bernardino City Fire Capt. Ben Alexander.

  • The violet irises will never be complete. Velvety purples and yellow pollen dust, the details that mark each petal, dwindle to the left of the canvas. Yet the painting is beautiful. Behind the flowers is a Maine shore bathed in sun, a distant pine forest, a soft sunset. Everything about the scene breathes tranquility like a warm breeze. It was Marilyn Carr's final painting. A longtime resident of Maine, Marilyn died on Feb. 22, 2009, at age 77 after a long battle with ovarian cancer. Two years later, her husband, Ben, has organized an exhibit of her artwork running through the end of November at the University of Maine at Machias Art Gallery.
