Belle Vernon Area School District will owe a smaller contribution to the Central Westmoreland Career and Technology Center's operating budget next school year.

Each town had its own high school, Fayette City, Marion in Fairhope, Belle Vernon on Market Street, North Belle Vernon on Graham Street, and Rostraver in Pricedale," said Perry Swartz, a 1940 graduate of North Belle Vernon High School. "Can you imagine that? Five schools in that rather small area, and that meant five football teams, five bands, five choruses and five valedictorians. Everyone had his own identity. Now the kids have a tendency to get lost in the shuffle in the big schools.

Two Mon Valley teachers are now among an elite class of educators recognized as the top in Pennsylvania.
Marsha L. (Shosky) Ferrara, an elementary teacher in the Belle Vernon Area School District, and Barbara Pepper, an elementary teacher in the Charleroi Area School District, were both recently recognized for completing the Department of Education National Board Certification program.
