The Memphis in May 2011 poster honoring Belgium by local artist Tim Crowder was unveiled Thursday.
Crowder, 54, a graduate of Memphis College of Art, has been showing work since 1982. Crowder said everyone he talked to told him beer and chocolate had to be represented in the poster. The artist also included poppies to symbolize the sacrifice of Americans who died in battle in Belgium during two world wars.

On a hot 85-degree day, a crowd entered LRJ Treatz, a store that offers 24 flavors of soft serve ice cream and an assortment of frozen drinks and treats. Popular items ordered did not just include cold refreshments, but funnel cakes, fried Twinkies, Oreos and brownies. "Our menu of fried items is well liked," said owner Yolanda DeHonney.
A family-owned establishment, LRJ Treatz is what the DeHonney s consider a unique restaurant concept. On any given day customers can find Yolanda, her husband, Loran, or sons Loran Jr., Roman and Jordan serving customers at their 10608 Prankstown Rd., Penn Hills location. (Next to the CVS and across from WaIgreen's).
The menu, what the family considers "sinftdly delicious," consists of cones, sundaes, shakes, frozen drinks, tornados, frozen treats like ...

Monica died early on Nov. 14, in a hospital in Miami, a few days after her 44th birthday. She had cancer - a fact that she treated with scant deference. "It is what it is," she used to say. Earlier, "I'm going to beat this." She died as she lived, in charge, getting things the way she wanted, surrounded by friends and family. She went down with all flags flying and the orchestra playing. We heard how she ordered stone crab claws close to the end, even though she could hardly eat them, how she had a last pedicure, how she lit up as friends came in one by one to say goodbye. Once she heard she was dying, she wanted to get on with it. "Why am I still here?" It didn't take her long to let go.
I think of her at the Artist's Way group, her eyes lighting up as she decided, when I sugge...

Could you really be addicted to substances and behaviors?
John Luik, University of Oxford Rhodes Scholar and senior fellow at the Democracy Institute in Washington, D.C., says the definition of addiction has been manipulated to increase health-care profits by lowering personal responsibility. So, could dark chocolate from Belgium be addictive?

Campbell Soup Co. is putting Godiva up for sale, saying the decadent Belgium chocolate does not fit with the company's focus on healthy, down-home foods.
The Camden-based company announced Thursday that it has hired Centerview Partners LLC to advise it on what to do with Godiva Chocolatier, which the company has owned for more than 40 years, but says has never fit squarely into any of its main business units.

The dark chocolate passion fruit truffles from Belgium would be appropriate. The praline hearts are our most popular item - I've never met anybody who doesn't love 'em. The praline center comes covered in milk, dark or white chocolate. I'll recommend the amaretto almond truffles and the toasted coconut clusters - I'm addicted to them.
It's a little like being kids again. We get to go to candy and chocolate shows every year, all three of us, and because we have different taste, it works. We bring tons of stuff home. We go through it all, and when we have consensus we know it's really good. That's how we decide what to order. We just sample little bites, but I'm lethargic for days after we're done.

WASHINGTON -- Few people in President Bush's entourage seemed happier to get home from Europe late Thursday night than Bush himself, who spent his week in meetings with three of the prickliest characters in current American foreign relations -- President Jacques Chirac of France, Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder of Germany and President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia.
Unlike other American presidents, who often used trips to Europe as diversions from the scandals and politics of home, Bush spent four days in chocolate-making countries like Belgium eating his peas.

Jane and Johan are a sophisticated, stylish duo with a cosmopolitan lifestyle and two busy careers. The couple adore throwing parties and entertaining guests. And Belgium-born Johan owns a luxury chocolate company, which means he often has colleagues visiting from around the world for in-home chocolate tasting sessions.
The problem was that their lovely house was really tight on leisure space. The living and dining rooms are tiny, with not much room for people to comfortably move around. They wanted to use their basement for the overflow, but the space was drab, awkward and filled with boxes and old furniture. So, after luring me in with enough chocolate to keep me bouncing off the walls for a long time, I agreed to turn the couple's style-starved basement into .

NEW YORK -- Joan Coukos' transition from international banker to artisanal chocolatier began when she found a set of chocolate molds at an antique market in Belgium.
I felt like I was on the verge of some discovery," said Coukos. "I couldn't put them down.

For many years, I have designed new versions of the old- fashioned dyed Easter eggs that I grew up coloring with my brothers and sisters under the supervision of our mother as she prepared the Easter feast. I have dyed them with onion skins, marbleized them, embellished them with gold and silver leaf, beaded them and dipped them in glass glitter.
After a trip to Brussels, Belgium, where I had my first sampling of chocolate-filled eggshells, I came home enthusiastic about trying to devise a system for doing a similar thing at home. What resulted was the how-to technique that you will find below. (The chocolate needs to be tempered, or heated and cooled to precise temperatures. If you don't take these steps when melting chocolate, it may become grainy or develop grayish patches, called bl...
