In Krista Thompson's first job out of college, as a hospital lab technician, she used Becton Dickinson and Co.'s blood-collection tubes to draw blood from patients. In her current job as vice president and general manager of global health for BD in Franklin Lakes, she is working to make sure villages in Africa and around the developing world have the testing equipment and technology they need to combat HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and other infectious diseases.
Thompson is a member of the World Economic Forum Global Health Advisory Board and has worked on collaborations between BD and international health organizations. This past week, she oversaw BD's participation in World Aids Day on Tuesday with a campaign for BD workers with the theme "I am fighting HIV/AIDS by doing my job.

FRANKLIN LAKES -- Becton Dickinson and Co.'s revenue declined slightly in its first quarter, but earnings rose, and the medical device company Monday maintained its earnings guidance for the rest of the year.
The company reported revenue of $1.8 billion for the quarter ended Dec. 31, down 1.4 percent from the same period a year earlier, when revenue was boosted by fears of the H1N1 flu, as well as by federal spending meant to stimulate the economy. Earnings per share rose 8 percent, from $1.25 a share to $1.35 a share, in large part because of federal tax benefits, including the extension of a research tax credit.
