On May 1, Catholics around the world will celebrate an event that happens as often as a comet streaking across the heavens- a beatification- the first formal step toward sainthood- for Pope John Paul II. The occasion of the rise of one of the church's most beloved and the second-longest-tenured pope in history (1978-2005) will be feted around the world, and here is being honored by "Blessed:A Tribute to John Paul II," an exhibit running through June 30 at the Knights of Columbus Museum.

VATICAN CITY - The Vatican complained on Friday that some travel agents are asking faithful to shell out a "service" fee for procuring places for the beatification of Pope John Paul II when no tickets or invitations are needed for the May 1 ceremony in St. Peter's Square. The Vatican lamented that there have been "unauthorized offers by some tour operators, especially on Internet, of assistance in procuring tickets, with a service charge.
The doctors told Timothy Ellis that his wife, who had suffered a stroke and lapsed into a coma, probably wouldn't make it out of Mercy Hospital alive. A priest gave Elizabeth Ellis last rites. Tim Ellis prayed in the hospital chapel and braced himself and their three children for the devastating news.
Former Pope John Paul II will be beatified Sunday, May 1, at St. Peter's Square in the Vatican. Beatification is a precursor to sainthood. In order to be beatified, or blessed, supporters needed to prove, among other things, that John Paul II performed a miracle.
