At least a dozen Kenmore East High School girls varsity basketball players have been suspended and face other sanctions for using a racial slur as part of their regular pregame locker room chant. The practice apparently had been going on for years.
Teammates would hold hands before their games, say a prayer together, then yell "One, two, three [N-word]!" before running out onto the court, according to offended students.

Most prep basketball players aspire to play college basketball and some wind up at the Division I level. In Virginia, there is a limited selection of Division II schools, so it usually comes down to D-I and Division III.

Two Providence College basketball players have been charged with assault after what police and school officials say was an unprovoked attack on a fellow student. Freshmen Johnnie Lacy and James Still were arraigned Monday and released on $1,000 bail after the alleged attack earlier in the morning. Both have been suspended from school.
Providence College Executive Vice President Kenneth Sicard is describing it as a serious and random assault. He says Lacy was planning to transfer next year.

After all, the weekly show in which Kasem went on the radio airwaves to count down the Top 40 songs in America gave the disc jockey and voice actor (he was the voice of Shaggy on Scooby- Doo and Batmans sidekick, Robin, on Super Friends) was pretty much the standard for the end of the Baby Boomer generation and the coming-of-age Generation X. According to Capt. Ronald Smith, police went to the Mountain View area of campus at about 3 a.m. on a report of an assault.
