Seton-La Salle's softball players were ready for this, the next twist in a spring sports season marked by irritating spurts of drizzling, intermittent showers and outright downpours.
All WPIAL baseball and softball playoff games scheduled for Tuesday were postponed due to rain, including the Class AA No. 3 seed Rebels' first-round matchup against Burgettstown. That game is now set for 2 p.m. Thursday -- just hours before Seton-La Salle's prom.

Parents from two baseball leagues completed questionnaires regarding their likelihood of engaging in various aggressive behaviors (yelling, swearing, shoving, fighting, humiliating) toward targets at youth baseball games (other spectators, umpires, coaches, other players, their child). Overall, the likelihood of all forms of aggression was very low, particularly physical aggression and swearing. Hierarchical entry stepwise regressions were calculated to determine predictors of yelling and humiliating using demographics, trait aggression, anger, hostility, and vengeance as predictors. Another day of postponements has pushed back the start of the Southern Connecticut Conference baseball tournament and the SCC outdoor track and field championship meet to today.
The track meet will still be at Sheehan at 2:30 p.m. But because of some regular-season makeup games at both West Haven High's Piurek Field and Quigley Stadium, Yale Field is now hosting a doubleheader today beginning at 4 p.m. while Piurek and Quigley each have a 7 p.m. game (see SCC tournament schedule, page C5). The semifinals and finals are still Thursday and Saturday, respectively, at Yale Field.

Also called "Monkey in the Middle" or "Pickle," the game resembles getting caught between bases. Two bases are put down and the goal is for the runner to safely get from one base to the other. The game can be played by as few as three people, with defenders at each of the bases. Once the runner is put out, he is replaced by the defender making the putout.

Take me out to the ballgame ... because I can't afford it.

This is the year the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network hopes to shake its litigious past and do the work it was created to do: show baseball games - and make money.
MASN, the love child from an arranged marriage between Major League Baseball and Baltimore Orioles' owner Peter Angelos, will air nearly 300 baseball games during the 2007 season, more than any other local television network in sports. The second most is Comcast SportsNet Chicago which shows 170, 72 Cubs games and 98 White Sox games.
