  • Jim Bouton has made it a priority to keep baseball tradition alive due to his involvement with the Vintage Base Ball Association, which was founded in 1995. But now Bouton, the former Major League player, most notably for the New York Yankees, and author of the controversial book "Ball Four," has even grander plans. Bouton announced plans Thursday for the creation of the Vintage Baseball Federation, a venture to unite the 225 VBBA teams, which cover 32 states, that play by 19th century rules, and convert conventional baseball and softball teams to the "gentleman's game," with a codified set of rules and a 2007 World Series.

The league is still hoping to strike a deal with the Buffalo Bisons to play the championship game at Coca- Cola Field on Aug. 19.

The blast gave West Herr a 7-4 victory over the Pittsburgh River Bandits and was the fifth time a Buffalo team has won the national tournament.
