RANCHO CUCAMONGA - The city has its sights on a major infrastructure project that will turn East Avenue and Base Line Road into an intersection equipped to handle the massive traffic volume near the Fontana border. In spring of 2012, the city is scheduled to begin construction on the Base Line/15 Freeway interchange project, which will add two lanes to East Avenue and Base Line, realign and widen freeway ramps and construct an on-ramp loop for southbound motorists. Construction of the $30 million project is expected to take 16 months.

In 1993, Walter Mogel purchased a 22,000 square foot lot on Base Line, east of McKinley Street, in Highland, and started Base Line Buggies, a used-car business. He spent about $10,000 to put in a sprawling parking lot, a rock lot, and a chain-link perimeter fence, then filled the lots with cars and trucks.
CLAREMONT - The City Council tonight will consider the $1.75 million sale of 2.6 acres at Towne Avenue and Base Line Road to a residential developer to build townhomes. The land is part of a proposed affordable housing project by the city that failed after significant opposition from Citizens for the American Dream, a neighborhood group, as well as the loss of the original funding support for the plan.

CLAREMONT - The Base Line Road affordable-housing project was effectively killed by the City Council this week. Council members voted 3-2 Tuesday evening to end the city's efforts to find funding for the project, which faced an unexpected $1.5million shortfall after it was disqualified last month from receiving $2.5million in Los Angeles County funds.
